Volunteer positions

We have several volunteering opportunities to suit a variety of skills and interests. We are looking for volunteers who can dedicated a minimum of four hours a month to help us increase our reach across the U.K. and beyond!

 

Research and writing volunteers (1-3 hours per week)

We are looking for inquisitive individuals who are passionate about making the environmental movement more inclusive. Our volunteers should be effective communicators who understand the importance of talking about the climate and ecological emergency in a manner that is accessible to a general public. For this position, a strong interest in Islam and good understanding of Muslim communities in the U.K. or abroad would be extremely beneficial.  

Typical tasks will include:

  • researching relevant information about environmental justice from reputable sources,
  • keeping track of the latest environmental news across the world,
  • producing content for our blog, exhibition pages and social media.

We are happy to consider people who feel don’t have lots of experience but are willing to learn. We provide training and a friendly, supportive environment. You will be able to work from home and will have a flexible schedule.

Outreach volunteers

(1-3 hours per week)

We are looking for outgoing individuals with good email and telephone skills to join our team and help Muslims Declare reach as many Muslim communities as possible. Our volunteers should be passionate about widening engagement with the climate and nature crisis amongst Muslims and the general public 

Typical tasks will include:

  • Researching outreach opportunities 
  • Emailing and calling organisations across the country to invite them to join our alliance and/or participate in our activities
  • Liaising with organisations to plan events and workshops

We are happy to consider people who feel don’t have lots of experience but are willing to learn. We provide training and a friendly, supportive environment. You will be able to work from home and will have a flexible schedule.

Graphic designers

(1-2 hours per week)

We are looking for individuals with great design and/or illustration skills who are passionate about making messaging about the climate and nature crisis more inclusive and accessible to the general public. This position will involve helping the Muslims Declare team develop impactful graphics for our website and social media. 

We are happy to consider people who don’t have lots of experience but can show us examples of the work they have done in the past, even if only in a personal capacity. In turn, we can provide a friendly, supportive environment and reimburse some costs (e.g. travel). You will be able to work from home and will have a flexible schedule.

  • Details of your availability (how many hours per week/month, how many months, weekend/weekdays)
  • Evidence of some knowledge and/or interest in learning about British Muslim communities and Muslim environmentalism.

 

Events coordinators

(project based)

We are looking for outgoing individuals with good organisation skills to join our team and help set up our ‘Green Letters to Imams’ in your local area. Our volunteers should be passionate about widening engagement with the climate and nature crisis amongst Muslims and the general public and connecting Muslims abroad with environmental campaigners across the Global South.  

Typical tasks will include:

  • Helping to organise and run the talks and workshops that will take place alongside the exhibition
  • Identifying opportunities using knowledge of your local area
  • Coordinating and liaising with organisations on the logistics of setting up the events in your local area
  • Helping to set up and pack away the exhibition
  • If applicable, monitoring the upkeep of the exhibition on a regular basis by paying regular visits and communicating with host organisations

We are happy to consider people who feel don’t have lots of experience but are willing to learn. We provide training and a friendly, supportive environment. You will be able to work from home and will have a flexible schedule.
